Whiteboard & Ideas

The Whiteboard is a sticky-note overlay for quick brainstorming and idea tracking. It floats on top of your canvas and is separate from your diagram content.

Opening the Whiteboard

• Press Ctrl+I (I for Ideas) to toggle the whiteboard, or
• Click the Whiteboard button in the toolbar

The whiteboard appears as a full-screen overlay with a semi-transparent backdrop and grid pattern.

Working with Sticky Notes

Adding Notes

Click the Add Note button in the whiteboard to create a new sticky note.

Editing Notes

Click on a note to start typing. Notes support basic formatting:

• Ctrl+B for bold
• Ctrl+I for italic

Moving Notes

Drag any note to reposition it on the whiteboard.

Resizing Notes

Drag the corner handles of a note to resize it.

Coloring Notes

Each note has a color picker — click it to choose from 12 preset colors plus any recent colors from your palette. The note header and text automatically adjust contrast for readability.

Deleting Notes

Click the delete button (×) on a note to remove it.

Closing the Whiteboard

• Press Escape or click outside the whiteboard area
• Press Ctrl+I again
• Click the close button

How It's Saved

Whiteboard notes are saved with your document automatically. They persist across sessions, so your ideas are always there when you come back.

Export Behavior

By default, whiteboard notes are excluded from exports (PNG, SVG, PDF). The whiteboard is designed for drafting and brainstorming, not for final output.

There's an "Include whiteboard notes" option in the export dialog if you want to include them.

Tips

• Brain dump first — use the whiteboard to capture ideas quickly before committing to diagram structure
• Color-code by category — use different colors for different concerns (e.g., yellow for questions, green for decisions, red for blockers)
• Keep it messy — the whiteboard is your scratchpad, not your final diagram
